Toxic Spikes is a Poison-Type move introduced in Generation IV. A trap of poison spikes is thrown at the opposing team's feet. The move takes effect when switching Pokémon, afflicting the incoming Pokémon with the Poison Status Condition.

The number of times Toxic Spikes is used determines the severity of the poisoning. A single layer will poison the incoming Pokémon, whereas two or more layers will have the same effect of Toxic: the incoming Pokémon will become severely Poisoned.

Pokémon that are unaffected by this move include Pokémon of the Flying, Steel, or Poison Types, or Pokémon with the Abilities Levitate and Immunity. Additionally, Poison-Types will automatically remove this entry hazard, having the same effect of Rapid Spin and Defog in that regard.
