Introduced in Generation IV, U-turn is a move that allows the user to switch Pokémon during the attack phase of the turn (as opposed to when selecting moves). This has various advantages, such as protection from Pursuit and allowing a slower Pokémon to take damage that would normally be dealt to the Pokémon that switches in. Baton Pass also has this effect, but without causing damage.

If the Pokémon using U-turn switches out with a Choice item (Choice Band, Choice Scarf, Choice Specs) and the Pokémon that switches in as a result also has U-turn, that Pokémon will be locked into using U-turn as with the normal Choice item effect.
