Venomoth (モルフォン) is the 49th Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Bug/Poison-Type, and is known as the Poison Moth Pokémon.

Venomoth can use one of two Abilities: Shield Dust, which prevents the secondary effects of opposing Pokémon's moves from working; or Tinted Lens, which doubles the power of its moves that aren't very effective. Its Hidden Ability is Wonder Skin, which reduces the chances of the opponent's Status Attacks working by 50%.

Venonat can evolve into Venomoth at Level 31.

Venomoth is in the Bug Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Venomoth One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Anime/Manga Information

Anime

After evolving from Venonat, Koga would use his Venomoth in a Gym Battle against Ash in The Ninja Poke-Showdown. Venomoth would defeat Pidgeotto and be in trouble against Charmander before Team Rocket disrupted the battle.

A trainer named Katie would use a Venomoth during her Hoenn League match against Ash in Shocks and Bonds and A Judgment Brawl!. She would recall Venomoth from a matchup against Torkoal, and use it later, forcing Corphish to be recalled before being defeated by Swellow.

Movies

A trainer named Raymond would use a Venomoth in Mewtwo Strikes Back. Wild Venomoth make an appearance in Celebi: Voice of the Forest.

Manga

Sabrina would use a Venomoth in Chapters 73, 83, 84, 89, 139 and 150. This female Venomoth uses Mega Drain and Sleep Powder in battle.

Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

In Generation VI, Venomoth finds itself in the BorderLine 2 (BL2) tier of competitive battling. With the Baton Pass clause implemented in Generation VI that prevents Pokemon from passing speed boosts to go along with other stats, Venomoth's biggest niche in QuiverPass was no more. However, it is still a very viable threat in the UnderUsed (UU) tier due to having an amazing boosting move in Quiver Dance to go along with an ability in Tinted Lens that makes Venomoth surprisingly hard to switch into. Venomoth's access to Sleep Powder gives it an easier time setting up against slower foes, and its typing gives it useful resistances to Fighting-, Fairy-, and Grass-type attacks. Venomoth's flaws lie in its weakness to Stealth Rock, lackluster bulk, and inability to beat certain special walls like Porygon2, Snorlax, and Blissey, although Venomoth can circumvent the more passive walls with Substitute or Roost.
