Volbeat can have one of two Abilities: Illuminate, which increases the likelihood of encountering Pokémon in the Wild when he is in the first slot in the Party; or Swarm, which increases the power of his Bug-Type moves by 50% once his HP falls below one-third of his maximum. Volbeat's Hidden Ability is the Prankster Ability. This Ability increases the Speed Priority of all moves that are in the Status Category by 1, working for moves such as Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave, for examples.
Volbeat does not evolve and does not have a pre-evolved form.
Volbeat is in the Egg Groups Bug and Human-Like, and his Egg takes approximately 3,840 Steps to hatch. His Egg could also hatch as either a Volbeat or an Illumise starting with Generation IV. It takes Volbeat approximately 600,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Volbeat resembles a red firefly that has two yellow stripes on his midsection.
Volbeat are always male.
Volbeat appears at Route 229 in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Volbeat appears at the Bug-Catching Contest on Thursdays in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, along with the Safari Zone's Mountain area after 10 Plains Objects have been placed in the area.
Volbeat appears at Huge Storage 1, Endless Level 5, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.
Volbeat appears on the first six floors of North Wind Field in the first round of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Volbeat appears at Steam Cave UP 1F-7F. Volbeat is exclusive to Light Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3. He appears at Mica Lake B1-B12 and Final Cave on floors 8 and 9.
Volbeat has yet to appear in any of the Pokémon Ranger games.
Volbeat can be found at Simmering Lake Treetops 2-4 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.
Trading Card Game
Volbeat appears in a total of six sets. It is listed as a Common Card in the Great Encounters and Triumphant Sets, and is listed as an Uncommon Card in the EX Sandstorm, EX Emerald, EX Delta Species and XY sets.
Other trainers have used Volbeat in the episodes Love At First Flight!, That's Just Swellow, which was the first appearance of the PokéRinger competition in the series, and three other episodes in the Hoenn Region. Wild Volbeat also make a cameo in the episode Time-Warp Heals All Wounds!
Wild Volbeat appear in the Pikachu Short Camp Pikachu and Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
Volbeat's Manga info is unknown at this time.
Volbeat may not look like it can do much in the Metagame, but is capable of appearing in the Never-Utilized, Rarely-Utilized, Under-Utilized and Over-Utilized Tiers of Competitive Battling. Thanks to receiving Prankster as his Hidden Ability, Volbeat gets increased priority with his Status moves, giving him priority usage of the moves Tail Glow, which now increases Special Attack by 3 Stages, and Baton Pass to pass the boosts, for examples.
However, Volbeat is frail statistically and can easily be beaten. Additionally, a prepared team will be able to Phaze out its Statistical increases. Priority moves from faster Pokémon also have a chance at taking it out before it can set up.
