Volbeat (バルビート) is the 86th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. He is a Bug Type, and is known as the Firefly Pokémon.
Volbeat can have one of two Abilities: Illuminate, which increases the likelihood of encountering Pokémon in the Wild when he is in the first slot in the Party; or Swarm, which increases the power of his Bug-Type moves by 50% once his HP falls below one-third of his maximum. A third Ability is available to Volbeat from the Dream World, the Prankster Ability. This Ability increases the Speed Priority of all moves that are in the Status Category by 1, working for moves such as Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave, for examples.
Volbeat does not evolve and does not have a pre-evolved form.
Volbeat is in the Egg Groups Bug and Human-Like, and his Egg takes approximately 3,840 Steps to hatch. His Egg could also hatch as either a Volbeat or an Illumise starting with Generation IV. It takes Volbeat approximately 600,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

[edit] Competitive Battling
Volbeat may not look like it can do much in the Metagame, but is capable of appearing in the Never-Utilized, Rarely-Utilized, Under-Utilized and Over-Utilized Tiers of Competitive Battling. Thanks to receiving Prankster as his Hidden Ability, Volbeat gets increased priority with his Status moves, giving him priority usage of the moves Tail Glow, which now increases Special Attack by 3 Stages, and Baton Pass to pass the boosts, for examples.
However, Volbeat is frail statistically and can easily be beaten. Additionally, a prepared team will be able to Phaze out its Statistical increases. Priority moves from faster Pokémon also have a chance at taking it out before it can set up.
