Volcanion (フーパ) is an Event-Only Pokémon for the Generation VI games Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. It is a Fire/Water-type, the first such typing combination, and it is known as the Steam Pokémon.

Volcanion uses the Water Absorb Ability, which makes it immune to Water-Type moves as it recovers up to 25% of its Maximum HP should it get hit with a Water-Type move.

Volcanion is the only Pokèmon to learn the move Steam Eruption.

Volcanion is set to debut in the upcoming movie Volcanion and the Ingenious Magearna along with Magearna.

Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

Volcanion is a part of the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. With a phenomenal offensive typing that gives it the ability to function as a wallbreaker as well as the ability to check numerous Pokémon such as Azumarill, Ferrothorn, Mega Sableye, and Mega Scizor, Volcanion is a powerhouse not to be underestimated. Its signature attack Steam Eruption has the same power as Hydro Pump with better accuracy and the same burn chance as Scald, making it an incredible offensive tool that can heavily pressure certain switch-ins. It synergizes well with Fairy, Grass, Dragon, and offensive Steel-types, due to its ability to threaten Steel-types with its STAB attacks. With a solid offensive movepool, Volcanion can complement its good STAB combination with coverage attacks in Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, and Hidden Power Grass. With Water Absorb as its ability, Volcanion discourages Scald spam and functions as one of the best switch-ins to Azumarill, which is a difficult Pokémon to switch into. However, Volcanion is not without its flaws, as it is a bit on the slow side and has a Stealth Rock weakness, which both factor into it not having the best longevity. Volcanion is also weak to common attacking types in Ground, Electric, and Rock.
