Vulpix (ロコン) is the 37th Pokémon in the Pokédex. It is a Fire-Type, and is known as the Fox Pokémon.

Vulpix uses the Flash Fire Ability, which makes it immune to Fire-Type moves and increases the power of its Fire-Type moves if it gets hit by one. Its Hidden Ability is Drought, which summons strong sunlight on the field for five turns.

Vulpix can evolve into Ninetales by using a Fire Stone on it.

Vulpix is in the Field Egg Group, and its Egg takes approximately 5,120 Steps to hatch. It takes Vulpix One Million Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Physiology

Vulpix is a small fox-like Pokémon. Its fur is mostly an orangey-reddish color. It has three curls on its head and a fringe, with the coloration orange. It has a tail that splits into six, which are also orange. It has small paws that are slightly darker than the rest of its fur. Vulpix has a white underbelly, as well as pointy ears and a short snout with a little black nose at the end.

Game Information

Original Games

Vulpix can be found at Route 7, Route 8 and Pokémon Mansion in Pokémon Blue. In Yellow, Vulpix can be obtained at the Celadon Game Corner for 1,000 Coins.

The only way to obtain Vulpix in Red, Gold and Crystal is to trade for one. Vulpix can be found at Routes 7, 8, 36 & 37 in Silver.

Vulpix can be found in the grass outside Mt. Pyre in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. Vulpix reprises its Generation I appearance in LeafGreen at Routes 7 & 8 and throughout Pokémon Mansion, while a Trade is required to obtain one in FireRed.

With Pokémon LeafGreen inserted into the Game Boy Advance slot of a Nintendo DS or DS Lite, Vulpix can be found at Routes 209 & 214 in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. In SoulSilver, Vulpix can be found at Routes 7, 8, 36, 37 & 48.

Vulpix can be found at Abundant Shrine in Black, White, Black 2 and White 2. Vulpix can also appear inside a Hidden Grotto at Abundant Shrine in Black 2 and White 2.

In Pokémon X and Y, the only way to obtain Vulpix is to evolve a Ninetales. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it can be caught in the wild at Mt. Pyre by using the DexNav feature on the PokéNav Plus, after the defeat or capture of Groudon or Kyogre. It can also be caught at the Mirage Forest north of Route 124.

Spin-Off Games

Vulpix is a Shadow Pokémon that can be snagged from Cipher Peon Mesin at ONBS Station in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.

Vulpix makes appearances at Huge Storage 1, Endless Level 17, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Vulpix can be found at Fiery Field 1F-4F in the first set of Mystery Dungeon games. In Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky, Vulpix can be found at Deep Dusk Forest 1F-12F and Sky Stairway 1F-49F. Vulpix is exclusive to Blazing Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Fire Mountains 1F-10F.

Vulpix can be found at Buruburu Camp, The Ice Lake, Hia Valley and Almia Castle in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Vulpix inhabit the Old Mansion's Dining Hallway and Library on Mitonga Island in the Present, and in the Ice Temple mission "Save the Frightened Vulpix" in the Past by completing the mission with an A Rank.

Vulpix can be found at Echo Valley Cave 1-3 and Firebreathing Mountain Magma 3-3 in Pokémon Rumble Blast.

Anime/Manga Information

Anime

Suzie would appear with a Vulpix in Pokémon Fashion Flash, an episode in which Vulpix would save Misty from Team Rocket by using Fire Spin, only to get caught in the attack herself. This Vulpix would travel with Brock afterwards, and would be of assistance to Brock as he grew as a Pokémon Breeder. Vulpix would reunite with Suzie and return to its Original Trainer in Beauty And The Breeder.

Movies

Brock's Vulpix would get cloned by Mewtwo in Mewtwo Strikes Back, making a subsequent appearance in Mewtwo Returns. Brock's Vulpix also appears in The Power of One and Spell of the Unown, along with the Pikachu Shorts Pikachu's Vacation and Pikachu & Pichu.

Wild Vulpix make appearances in The Power of One and Destiny Deoxys, along with the Pikachu Shorts Pikachu's Rescue Adventure and Pikachu's Summer Festival.

Manga

Bill has his own Vulpix, which serves the role of a guard Pokémon at his house. This Vulpix makes appearances in Chapters 59, 74, 76, 78, 99, 105, 117, 150, 179, 180 & 295.

Flannery would battle the SSS Trio with her own Vulpix, which makes appearances in Chapters 245-247 & 250.

Sapphire Inside Vulpix's body burns a flame that never goes out. During the daytime, when the temperatures rise, this Pokémon releases flames from its mouth to prevent its body from growing too hot.
Emerald It can freely control fire, making fiery orbs fly like will-o'-the-wisps. Just before evolution, its six tails grow hot as if on fire.
