Wailord (ホエルオー) is the 100th Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex. It is a Water Type, and is known as the Float Whale Pokémon.

Wailord can have one of two Abilities: Water Veil, which makes it immune to getting a Burn from moves such as Will-O-Wisp or the effects of the Flame Body Ability; or Oblivious, which prevents it from becoming infatuated with an opposing Pokémon. Its Hidden Ability is Pressure, which doubles the amount of PP used by an opponent when it is attacked.

Wailmer evolve into Wailord starting at Level 40.

Wailord is in the Egg Groups Field and Water 2, and its Egg takes approximately 10,240 Steps to hatch. It takes Wailord up to 1,640,000 Experience Points to reach Level 100.

Wailord can be found at Routes 223 & 230 in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum by Fishing with the Super Rod. In Pokémon Sun and Moon, it can be caught in the wild at Poni Breaker Coast, Poni Wilds and Seafolk Village by being called on by a Wailmer in an S.O.S. Battle. It can also be caught at Shaking Spots in the water at Poni Wilds.

Spin-off Games

Wailord appears at Huge Storage 5 and Mr. Who's Den in Pokémon Trozei!.

Evolving a Wailmer is the only way to obtain a Wailord in the first round of Mystery Dungeon games. Wailord appears at Bottomless Sea B1-B49 in Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness & Explorers of Sky. Wailord is exclusive to Stormy Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Stormy Seas 14F-17F.

A Wailord needs to be rescued from Team Dim Sum at the Sea of Wailord in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Doing so will register its data, but it's too large to be captured with a Capture Styler. After beating the game, Wailord can be used to take you to the Capture Arena.

Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

Wailord finds itself in the Never-Utilized Tier of Competitive Battling. Its HP is the fourth highest in the Metagame, but the only other Statistics that stand out for Wailord are its Attack and Special Attack. Water Spout will hit really hard if Wailord gets to use the move if its HP is full.

Other than Water Spout, Wailord isn't that big of a threat offensively. Its massive size causes it to take a lot of damage from Grass Knot and Low Kick, and its lack of Speed makes it easy to outrun. That said, Bulky Water Pokémon will have an easy time walling it, and Super-Effective attacks will wear Wailord down in a hurry.
