Pokémon Information

Competitive Battling

Weezing resides in the Neverused (NU) tier of competitive battling. As among the tier's best defensive Pokémon, Weezing stands out due to its great defensive typing, Levitate to negate its Ground-type weakness, and an Defense stat that makes it an optimal defensive Pokémon against commonly seen Pokémon such as Sceptile and Steelix. It has many great utility moves like Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, and Toxic Spikes, providing it with enough utility to support many different team archetypes while not making it easy set up bait against certain threats. However, Weezing's only forms of reliable recovery are Black Sludge and the unreliable Pain Split, which can lead to it getting worn down rather easily. Weezing also has a rather subpar Special Defense stat that can exploited by strong special attackers like Magmortar and Samurott as well as many Psychic-type threats.

Weezing is also viable in the Rarelyused (RU) tier of competitive battling. With the ability to counter many threatening Pokémon like Hitmonlee, Virizion, and Venusaur, Weezing makes for a decent defensive Pokémon that acts as a mixed wall due to a favorable typing. Levitate sets Weezing apart from other defensive Poison-types, granting it an immunity to Spikes and allowing for it to check Ground-types like Rhyperior. With utility moves like Toxic Spikes and Will-O-Wisp and an attacking movepool that allows for it to check Steel-types with Flamethrower, Weezing can be a nice check for many imposing threats. Unfortunately, Weezing has only Pain Split for recovery, can be taken out by strong special attacking threats, and faces competition as a defensive Poison-type from Garbodor, which has access to Spikes and higher Special Defense.

Weezing is usable in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling as well. It can act as a reliable check to the many Fighting-types in the tier, such as Mienshao and Heracross. Weezing's ability to not be as easy set up bait as other defensive Pokémon is a bonus as well, as Will-O-Wisp and a usable Special Attack let it to wear down at opposing foes. Good utility moves like Toxic Spikes also prove to be very handy, as Weezing can give entry hazard support for a team and spread status. However, Weezing's lackluster Special Defense stat is its downfall, as it cannot handle the many special attackers in the tier. It also can only use Pain Split for recovery and has a mediocre Speed stat.
