Xatu (ネイティオ - Natio) is a Psychic and Flying. Xatu has two abilities which are both useful when battling an opponent. The first of the abilities is Synchronize. In Volume 14, Will uses a Xatu to fight Blue and Silver.
By the events which happened in the Battle Frontier saga, Crystal's Natu has evolved into a Xatu.
Xatu is in the Neverused (NU) tier of competitive battling. With a great ability in Magic Bounce, Xatu can act as a good anti-entry hazard pivot and can bounce back status moves like Will-O-Wisp and Toxic as well as Taunt. It has reliable recovery in Roost to keep itself healthy and keep the upper hand in matchup against hazard setters like Garbodor and Mesprit. Xatu can fit very much on balanced teams due to a varied movepool, which allows for it to run support, offensive, or bulky Calm Mind sets. The best Xatu set is a pivot set that can switch into entry hazard setters and pivot out with U-turn or cripple opposing foes with Thunder Wave. It also can run a Life Orb offensive set that gives Xatu the ability to threaten opposing foes with nice coverage options like Grass Knot and Heat Wave to go along with Psychic, which gives it the upper hand against entry hazard setters that would normally give Xatu trouble like Rhydon. A Calm Mind set is another option that gives Xatu a good matchup against stall due to its effective immunity to Taunt and status moves. Xatu's flaws are that its bulk is not really all too amazing, as it can be worn down quite easily even with investment, and that Xatu has some common weaknesses to Ghost, Dark, and Rock. The Dark weakness is especially troubling given that Xatu can be vulnerable to Pursuit trappers like Skuntank. It also does not have a flawless matchup against every entry hazard setter, as Stealth Rock setters like Rhydon and Piloswine can easily take Xatu out on the switch with their STAB attacks.
Xatu is also viable in the Rarelyused (RU) tier of competitive battling. With Magic Bounce, Xatu has a good matchup against common Stealth Rock setters like Uxie and Registeel and can bounce back status moves as well as Taunt. With U-turn, Xatu is an effective pivot that can gain momentum for the team after it forces an entry hazard setter to switch. It has a nice x4 resistance to Fighting and a Ground immunity, giving it reasonable defensive utility as a Pokémon against certain common threats. With reliable recovery in Roost, Xatu is sure to keep itself healthy and continue to discourage the setting up of entry hazards. However, it has some unfortunate weaknesses to Dark, Ice, Rock, Electric, and Ghost. It is vulnerable to the common Knock Off and Pursuit, with the latter potentially putting Xatu in a very bad situation. Diancie is a common Stealth Rock setter that gives Xatu a lot of problems due to STAB Diamond Storm and Heal Bell to heal off any Toxic status that Xatu throws at it. It can also become set up bait against the likes of Drapion, Fletchinder, and Scrafty.
