Mega Sharpedo, the Mega Evolution of Sharpedo activated by using Mega Stone, was revealed on September 10, 2014 after a leak of the November Edition of CoroCoro, alongside Mega Camerupt and Mega Gallade. It retains its Water and Dark-typings.

Mega Sharpedo uses the Strong Jaw ability, an ability that increases the power of biting attacks by 50%.

Sharpedo can Mega Evolve into Mega Sharpedo if it is holding a Sharpedonite.

Competitive Battling

Mega Sharpedo resides in the Underused (UU) tier of competitive battling. With a great ability in Strong Jaw that boosts its STAB Crunch to hit ridiculously hard, Mega Sharpedo is a strong cleaner in the tier that has good coverage and Speed Boost as an ability prior to Mega Evolving, which can allow for Mega Sharpedo to outspeed certain threats like Crobat and Mega Aerodactyl. With slightly increased bulk, Mega Sharpedo can tank priority hits like Choice Band Entei's Extreme Speed a lot better than its base form can. However, Mega Sharpedo suffers from having to run Protect in order to get a speed boost most of the time, which can take up a valuable moveslot. Mega Sharpedo also needs to have entry hazards and prior damage to OHKO certain threats and while its bulk is better than base form Sharpedo, it is relatively subpar.

Mega Sharpedo is also viable in the Overused (OU) tier of competitive battling. Thanks to base form Sharpedo's ability Speed Boost, Mega Sharpedo can take advantage of having increased Speed and is a great late-game cleaner. Strong Jaw makes Crunch very hard to switch into while Mega Sharpedo can match up well against offensive and defensive teams alike due to its coverage moves like Hydro Pump, Ice Fang, and Poison Jab. Unfortunately, Mega Sharpedo suffers from being rather frail and can be picked off by strong priority like Talonflame's Brave Bird. It is also predictable in its move choice when it comes in as Mega Sharpedo is often forced to use Protect to get a speed boost before Mega Evolving. Mega Sharpedo also needs support to get past some common threats like Keldeo which can provide problematic for it.
