Riolu can have one of two Abilities: Steadfast, which increases its Speed by one stage each time it Flinches; or Inner Focus, which prevents it from flinching unless it was trying to use Focus Punch. Its Hidden Ability is Prankster, which increases the priority of its Status Moves by 1.
Riolu gain the opportunity to evolve into Lucario when its Happiness reaches a high enough point, and it levels up during the daytime. This is known as a Friendship Evolution.
Riolu is in the Undiscovered Egg Group. While Riolu themselves cannot breed, an Egg bred from a Lucario will take approximately 6,400 Steps to hatch. It takes Riolu 1,059,860 Experience Points to reach Level 100.
Riolu takes on the appearance of a bipedal fox. The majority of Riolu is blue, save for the legs, ears, and a pattern on its head that resembles a mask, which is black.
Riolu doesn't have any differences to differentiate between male and female.
A Riolu can be obtained by hatching a Pokémon Egg that is given to the player by Riley at Iron Island in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. In Heart Gold and Soul Silver, Riolu can be obtained at the Safari Zone's Meadow zone by placing 10 Forest Objects and 14 Peak Objects, then waiting 70 Days, which is when Riolu start appearing in that area.
Riolu appears at Crystal Cave B4-B8 in Explorers of Time and Explorers of Sky. Riolu doesn't appear in Explorers of Darkness. Riolu is exclusive to Stormy Adventure Squad in Mystery Dungeon 3, appearing at Storm Island 9F-14F.
Riolu appears within Almia Castle in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Riolu also appears in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, appearing within the Oblivia Ruins 1F in the Present, and in the Thunder Temple Mission "Are You for Riolu?" by finishing the mission with an A Rank.
Trading Card Game
Riolu is listed in the National Beginning Set, twice in the Black/White Promo set, Pokémon Organized Play Series 6 as an Uncommon Card and Pokémon Organized Play Series 8 as a Common Card. Riolu is listed as a Common Card in the Legends Awakened, Platinum, Unleashed, and Next Destinies sets, and as an Uncommon Card in the Diamond and Pearl & Call of Legends sets.
Riolu appears in Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu as the main character in the one hour special. It was being hunted down by Pokémon Hunter J as this Riolu could use Aura before evolving, but Ash could sense its location, allowing for Ash and company to thwart Hunter J's plans.
Riolu has yet to appear in any of the films as of writing.

Riolu is in the Not Fully Evolved Tier of Competitive Battling as it is an unevolved Pokémon.
